As a young boy, Wade was fascinated with the art of Charles Beckendorf, and would sit and draw from Beckendorf pen & inks that his grandmother had hanging on her wall. As a youth, Wade had the opportunity to meet Charles Beckendorf and eat turkey jerky with him, this was the first time Wade had really seen an original painting. When Wade's mother was diagnosed with leukemia, he began oil painting scenes of the Texas Hill Country as he sat by her bedside. 'It gave me something to do as she would drift in and out of sleep.' As his family grew, Wade put the paints away for over ten years until 2011 when the small country church he was serving asked him to paint a scene of the church to be auctioned off to help pay for the purchase of a new fellowship hall. The painting did quite well at auction, and numerous requests came for prints of the painting. Wade has painted several other churches since then as well as scenes of particular interest to him or requests and commissions that others have made.
